Bandits kill 50 in Ondo Catholic Church

Bandits have reportedly killed over 50 persons in an attack on the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Apart from worshippers, the bandits also killed passersby hit by stray bullets.

Witnesses said the attack occurred during the church’s Sunday service.

President Muhammadu Buhari has lauded the contributions of General-Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor W. F Kumuyi, to the spiritual and moral development of the country.

The President expressed the appreciation while celebrating Kumuyi’s 81st birthday anniversary in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, on Sunday.

Garba Shehu Speaks About Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari did not demand zoning the presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress to Southern Nigeria, his spokesman Garba Shehu has said.

Mr Shehu said reports purporting the Nigerian leader had asked party leaders to consider only southern aspirants for the top ticket during last night’s meeting were false. Peoples Gazette did not run the story, which was attributed to undisclosed sources at the meeting.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, says sensitive election materials will no longer be “routed” through the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Yakubu who spoke on Saturday at an election dialogue, ‘The Electorate’, organised by Enough is Enough, stated that the electoral body never had an issue with the CBN since the partnership started, but that due to “current circumstances”, an alternative would be found.

Youths In Kano Begin Protest

A group called the Concerned APC Youths have staged a peaceful procession in Kano protesting against the decision of the eleven governors from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to cede power to Southern Nigeria.

Addressing newsmen at the protest in on Sunday, the group’s Coordinator, Nura Bebeji said that the decision by the governors is a deliberate plan to sideline youthful leaders from the north like Yahaya Bello, the Kogi state governor, from participating in the presidential contest.

The Pan Yoruba Socio-Political Group, Afenifere, has said that the Owo attack in which church worshippers were murdered at St Francis Catholic Church, was a direct attack on Yoruba race.

It’s National organizing secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu said that “the massacre in Owo Catholic church is a direct attack on Yoruba land”.

Osinbajo Has Not Stepped Down – PYO

PYO Presidential Campaign Council has dismissed reports making the rounds that the presidential aspirant and vice president Yemi Osinbajo has stepped down from contesting for the number one seat, in the All progressive Congress, APC.

Disclosing this in a statement sent to Vanguard, Richard Akinnola, Chairman, PYO Media Council, noted that the story was false, advising people to disregard the story.

Akpabio Speaks On Stepping Down For Tinubu

A former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has debunked reports that he stepped down from the presidential race for Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Reports had emerged on Saturday that Akpabio had stepped down and endorsed Tinubu.

It was reported that Akpabio endorsed Tinubu after Buhari met with the All Progressives Congress presidential aspirant.

But reacting, Akpabio in a statement issued on Sunday by his Director, Media and Publicity, Sylvester Okonkwo, described the report as fake.
