A 42-year-old truck driver, Lukman Jimoh, was on Friday brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly knocking down a pedestrian, Lawal Isa.
Jimoh is facing a two-count charge of manslaughter and reckless driving.
The Prosecutor, Police Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, said the truck driveer committed the offences on Oct. 26 at 4.00 p. m. at Gasoline, Ilogbo near Ota.
He said Jimoh, driver of a Leyland tipper with registration no. KNN 256 XA, drove the vehicle in a reckless and dangerous manner and killed 45-year-old Lawal Isa.
According to Gbesi, the driver drove against the traffic and and in the process, knocked down the man.
The offences contravened the provisions of Sections 5 and 6 (1) of the Federal Highway Act, Laws of the Federation, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
While ruling on the bail application, the Senior Magistrate, Mr G. E. Akan, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until Nov. 22 for further hearing.
