A gang of robbers terrorized Shagari Estate and its environs in Mosan Okunola area of Alimosho Local Government, Lagos State in the early hours of Saturday May 23.
The robbers, notorious for stealing and vandalizing vehicles, according to eye witnesses’ accounts, invaded the area around 3am.
PM NEWS gathered that the daredevil robbers
overpowered and tied down the night guards employed by residents to man
the area and scaled the fence of many houses.
Residents were held hostage and robbed at gun point, while their vehicles were vandalized and valuable items carted away.
Door handles and other vital parts were also removed from cars in the area
They burgled some houses and shops on BH and BQ Streets in the estate, and houses around Cacatin Road, very close to the estate.
Expensive cars were vandalized with valuable parts such as brain boxes, car tapes, dashboards, handles among others carted away.
Some of the residents who spoke to PM NEWS confirmed that the area had been a haven for the gang for a long time with little or no threat to its operations from security operatives.
Victims of the Saturday invasion on BH Street said when they reported the incident at the nearby Gowon Police Station, the police promised to come but that they never showed up.
When this reporter put a call through to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the station, SP Kabir, he denied turning any complainant back and referred him to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for information regarding any case at the station.
Meanwhile, the residents are calling on the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, to help rid the area of the despicable elements constantly terrorizing them.
