NDIDI HAPPY COMBINING FOOTBALL AND EDUCATION AT LEICESTER CITY

Nigeria midfielder Wilfred Ndidi says studying at De Montfort University (DMU) in Leicester is ensuring that he achieves his dream of gaining good education, Completesports.com reports.

Ndidi is currently studying Business and Hospitality Management at DMU. He decided to enrol for the course after visiting the university for Clearing in 2018 and being inspired by his interaction with the institution’s new students on the phone.

“I was really happy when the DMU staff said I could study here,” Ndidi told the University website.

“I wanted to do this course because growing up in Nigeria we didn’t really have the opportunity to actually go to school.

“It’s a personal thing for me that I want to do it, to expand myself and learn new things.”

The Business and Management course fits around the Nigerian international’s busy training schedule and he is happy with how he has progressed so far.

“Instead of sitting at home after training I come to DMU for my classes,” Ndidi said.

“The teachers have been amazing, they really try and help me understand. Rather than just reading books they take time to explain things to me and they are also very understanding about my schedule with training.”

Ndidi hopes his degree from DMU will prepare him for life after football and says he wants to give back to society in his home country.

“Back home so many kids aren’t able to go to school because their parents can’t afford it,” he said.

“I want to set up a football resort where people can stay and play football while getting an education at the same time. I think it’s really important to try to learn things outside of your normal life.”

Ndidi moved to England when he signed for Leicester City from Belgian side K.R.C. Genk in 2017 and has aspired to get university education ever since.
