A yet-to-be-identified man has been electrocuted while attempting to vandalise a transformer in the Akute area of Ogun State on Friday, January 24.
The spokesperson of the state police command, CSP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed this to newsmen, said the deceased had climbed into the transformer house and got electrocuted while attempting to cut a wire.
She revealed that the incident was reported to the police by the chairman of the Irewole community.
“At about 10:20 am, on Friday, the chairman of the Irewole community, a man identified as Rasheed Ajagbe, reported to the station that for a while, the community had been experiencing theft and damage of electrical wires from their power transformer.
He reported that around 7 am, he received a call to inspect the transformer and he went there with other community executives.
When they arrived at the transformer house, they found the lifeless body of an unidentified individual and saw that the man had attempted to vandalise a wire, which then resulted in electrocution,” the statement partly read
Odutola stated that a team of police detectives moved to the scene, took photographs and then moved the body to the General Hospital Ifo mortuary, for autopsy and preservation.
