Dino wins PDP Gov’ship ticket in Kogi

Dino Melaye has been declared the winner of the governorship primary election of the People’s Democratic Party in Kogi.

Melaye defeated other aspirants in the keenly contested primary election.

The former lawmaker will be up against Usman Ododo, the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the election.

DSS Swings Into Action Over Adamawa Attack

The Department of State Services (DSS) says it has launched an investigation into an attack on one of its personnel in Adamawa State.

The secret police said this in a statement on Sunday evening.

Daily Trust had reported the assault on a top official during the supplementary election in the state.

A DSS official was also recorded when he was being assaulted by persons believed to be working for politicians.

Reacting in a statement, Peter Afunanya, DSS spokesperson, said, “The attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been drawn to a trending video on the social media in which someone suspected to be its staff was allegedly manhandled by some political miscreants in Adamawa State. This followed developments arising from the supplementary governorship election in the State.”

“The Service wishes to inform the public that it has commenced a full investigation into the circumstances that led to the incident.”

“While calling for calm, the Service also implores concerned parties in Adamawa State to remain peace loving and shun violence.”

Afam Ogene wins Ogbaru Federal Constituency seat

Hon. Victor Afam Ogene of Labour Party (LP) been declared winner of the Ogbaru House of Representatives seat by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

He defeated the incumbent House of Representatives member of the constituency, Hon. Chukwuma Onyema of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who is a third term member of the Green Chamber.

Announcing the results at Atani, headquarters of Ogbaru Local Government Area, the Returning Officer, Professor Kingsley Ubaorji of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, said “Hon. Afam Ogene of Labour Party polled 10,851 votes of the total votes cast, followed by the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP), Hon Chukwuma Wilfred Onyema who polled 10,619 votes.

We placed priority on peace, security in Delta – Okowa

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, weekend, said his administration placed a high priority on peace and security in all parts of the state.

Okowa who stated this at a farewell dinner organised by the state government for some members of the State Security Council, said the prevailing peace in the state had led to an increase in oil and gas production as well as additional revenues for the country.

While commending security agencies in the state for their contributions to maintaining peace and security, making the state more investor-friendly, he thanked the outgoing security officers for their contributions to the peace and development of the state.

Okowa said Deltans would miss their invaluable services and wished them well in future endeavours.
