It has been gathered from a reliable source that the Labour Party has unveiled Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as the running mate to Peter Obi ahead of the 2023 presidential election. The 46-year-old was a former lawmaker who represented Kaduna North Senatorial district. He is the founder of Baze University, Abuja. The economist turned politician served as Senator for Kaduna North from 2011 to 2012 and a member of the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007.
Datti Baba-Ahmed has come out to explain why he accepted his nomination as the running mate to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party. He disclosed that his decision to accept the nomination was borne out of his passion and commitment to rescuing the country. He revealed that Obi and stakeholders in the party played a vital role in him deciding to key into their vision and agenda of getting the country to where it should be.
Baba-Ahmed also revealed that one can only rescue what is troubled and Nigeria is troubled. He cannot shy away from rescuing the country. He said another reason why he accepted his nomination is that he believes the country can be great again. He believes that Nigeria will be peaceful, prosperous, and united. He disclosed that Peter Obi’s honesty, integrity, and achievements both in the private and public sectors were part of what influenced his decision to accept his nomination as his running mate.
Datti Baba-Ahmed said he considers Peter Obi as a nationalist and detribalized Nigerian, one who is embedded with integrity and capacity to lead the country. He cannot but accept to work with such an individual. He also said that this is a high point in his life and career. He said with all trust in the Almighty Allah and his belief in Nigeria and all humbleness, he accepts the generous nomination to be the vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
