Military under fire as bandits deploy helicopter, kill 32 in Southern Kaduna

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has carpeted the Defence Headquarters over its failure to deploy the 12 newly acquired Super Tucano aircraft in the North-West seven months after a Federal High Court designated bandits as terrorists.

HURIWA, in a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, slammed the military hierarchy especially the Nigerian Air Force for its tardiness in dealing with terrorists terrorizing the North-West.

The group said while the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Air Force are condoning the heinous killings by bandits, the marauders, now emboldened by the inaction of the government, have moved on to allegedly deploy sophisticated weapons including an attack helicopter.

Umahi congratulates Tunubu

Ebonyi State Governor, Chief David Umahi on Thursday congratulated the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for emerging victorious in the just concluded primary election of the party.

Umahi, who aspired for the seat of the President of Nigeria, lost to Tinubu who scored a total of 1271 votes to defeat his rival opponents.

In a statement signed and issued to journalists in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, Umahi vowed to mobilize support and give bulk votes that will ensure Tinubu’s victory in the forthcoming 2023 general election.

PDP BOT in a closed-door meeting with Atiku over running mate

The Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party has met former Vice-president and the party’s standard-bearer, Atiku Abubakar, behind closed doors.

The meeting was held on Wednesday evening, in Abuja, led by the BOT chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin.

The BOT and the party’s standard-bearer had in the aftermath of the presidential primary held in May scheduled a meeting to discuss the subject of who will be the running mate to Abubakar.

Democracy Day: Buhari addresses Nigerians Sunday

President Muhammadu Buhari will broadcast to Nigerians on Sunday to mark this year’s Democracy Day celebration.

The government declared every June 12 as Democracy Day in commemoration of June 12, 1993, presidential election annulled by the military junta of former President Ibrahim Babangida.
