Political thugs attacked Labour Party supporters who were waiting at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos for the arrival of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential candidate.
Peter Obi visited Alaba, Lagos, today, Feb. 11, after which he headed towards TBS where supporters were waiting for him.
However, many Labour Party supporters making their way to TBS were attacked by political thugs wielding machetes and other harmful objects.
Their cars were also destroyed with stones.
Medical personnel at TBS had their hands full as they attended to the injured.
Condemning the attack, Dele Momodu, a supporter of the PDP Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar said there is no reason for the violence.
POLICE CONFIRM ATTACK ON PETER OBI’S SUPPORTERS BY THUGS IN LAGOS
The Lagos state police command has confirmed that supporters of Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, were attacked by thugs while on their way to his presidential rally in the state today, February 11.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said about four persons were injured in the attack. He also said that they’ve commenced an investigation.
The statement read;
?Jakande Ward Chairman of Labour Party commendably reported an attack on his party members at Ilasan Division. Four injured persons have been given medical attention. DPO Ilasan has commenced preliminary investigations while SCID is to fully take over investigations.
“The injured and other witnesses are assisting the Police with relevant information that would aid the apprehension and prosecution of the attackers.
“This attack is reprehensible! It is verifiable that the Command had stationed, since yesterday, patrol vehicles and officers at the Tafawa Balewa Square venue of today?s rally. We had already secured the venue to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
?The regrettable attack happened at about 15km away from the rally venue. As earlier stated, the SCID will take over investigations towards apprehending and prosecuting the attackers.?
