Residents groan as fuel scarcity lingers in Lagos state

Fuel scarcity has hit Lagos state as residents have returned to queuing at various petrol stations to purchase fuel.

Most of the filling stations in the state have been under lock and key for a few days due to the unavailability of the product. Petrol stations with the product have witnessed long queues as residents of the state scamper to purchase fuel for their vehicles.

Residents claim some of the petrol stations sell as high as N250 per liter.

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), has attributed the recent scarcity to the limited availability. Speaking to The Cable, IPMAN coordinator, Mike Osatuyi, said ;

“We don’t have fuel. If there is fuel, then we have something to sell. The little that’s available, we are buying at N205. When you add up transport, that’s about N213 before you can add your profit. That’s the truth.

Even if you want to buy at N205 now, you won’t even see to buy. NNPC said the fuel is available but we don’t see it. If we are able to see the fuel, that’s the only way we can confirm that the product is available. Let’s wait and see for the next few days.”he said

The leadership of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Company NNPC is yet to comment on this recent scarcity.
