APC National Leader and ex-Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has just informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his 2023 presidential ambition.
“I have informed the president of my intention but I have not informed Nigerians yet. I’m still consulting.
“And I have no problem consulting. I have not set a parameter of limitation to the extent of how many people I will consult,” Tinubu told State House correspondents after a meeting with Buhari at the Aso Presidential Villa on Monday, January 10, 2022.
Tinubu also said becoming Nigeria’s President has been a lifelong ambition for him.
“You will soon hear. All you want to hear is the categorical declaration. You’ve gotten that truth from me that I have informed Mr. President of my ambition,” the 69-year-old reiterated.
He added that as a democrat, Buhari did not discourage him from contesting the 2023 Presidency from the platform of the governing APC.
Tinubu governed cosmopolitan and densely populated Lagos from 1999 to 2007. He has played a godfather role in the politics of Nigeria in the years that have followed, sometimes handpicking candidates who have gone on to win subnational elections.
He was also instrumental in forging the alliance that toppled the PDP from the center in 2015.
